OSCE Mission and UK Embassy hold seminar on Transdniestrian Settlement Guarantees
CHISINAU, 8 October 2010 - A workshop co-sponsored and implemented by the OSCE Mission to Moldova and the British Embassy on Transdniestrian settlement process guarantees, which started yesterday in Chisinau, concluded today in Tiraspol.
The two-day seminar brought together the negotiating teams of both sides, the Co-Chairs of the Joint Expert Working Groups on Confidence Building Measures and senior members of the Joint Control Commission, which oversees the ceasefire in the conflict.
"This seminar is an integral part of the settlement process," Ambassador Philip Remler, the Head of the OSCE Mission said. "Participants discussed incorporating guarantees which would ensure both sides' compliance with the entire range of agreements reached within the negotiating process, - from the narrowest interim agreements to a comprehensive political settlement."
Experts from Germany, the Russian Federation, the United Kingdom and Ukraine provided a comprehensive overview of guarantees used elsewhere.
Ambassador Keith Shannon of the United Kingdom said: "I was impressed by the level of participation, the understanding and the constructive contributions from participants on both sides. The United Kingdom will be pleased to look at how we can take forward this work, in consultation with our OSCE partners and the parties."
Ambassador Remler added: "This seminar contributes to the progress made this year on building trust and confidence."
