Establishment of first public-private partnership in cybersecurity in Serbia announced at OSCE-supported cyber security conference
The first public-private partnership in the cybersecurity domain in Serbia was announced at the first national cybersecurity conference, entitled Partnerships for a Secure Cyber Space, held on 12 June 2017 in Belgrade.
Some 120 representatives of state institutions, the private sector, academia and civil society organizations attended the conference organized by the OSCE Mission to Serbia, the Serbian Ministry for Trade, Tourism and Telecommunications, Microsoft Serbia and Diplo Foundation.
This type of co-operation between the public and private sectors, while including academia and civil society in the discourse, is an excellent way for exchanging information and implementing joint activities that contribute to an improved national cybersecurity landscape.
“The OSCE Mission to Serbia stands ready to work with all relevant institutions to develop targeted actions for the implementation of the recently adopted National Strategy on Cybersecurity, especially through the upcoming National Action Plan,” said the Head of the OSCE Mission to Serbia, Andrea Orizio. “We offer the OSCE expertise on related confidence building measures, regional and other international follow-up steps crucial for creating a comprehensive, efficient and effective system of cybersecurity.”
The conference speakers highlighted that effective cybersecurity measures depend on co-operation among different stakeholders, and that cybersecurity cannot be achieved by a single organization or a structure.
“When our communication networks are compromised, misused or attacked, so is life as we know it,” said Orizio. “This is a concern shared by all countries, a concern that goes well beyond the capacities of any State to effectively tackle on its own.”
The OSCE Mission to Serbia, by using the knowledge and experience of all 57 participating states, stands ready to continue supporting the joint efforts in protection of cyber security in Serbia of the relevant institutions and other actors, in line with the international and OSCE commitments.
