A high-level meeting and field visit aimed to foster young women’s participation in the renewable energy sector took place in Nur-Sultan on 14 July 2022. The Office of the Co-ordinator of OSCE Economic and Environmental Activities organized the event together with the Kazakh German University.

On 13-14 July, over 50 participants representing a wide range of government and civil society organizations from Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan as well as international organizations convened in a workshop in Almaty, Kazakhstan. The initiative aimed to discuss climate change and security challenges in the region, and to identify regional co-operation opportunities and joint actions to address these challenges.

On 12 July 2022, students and young professionals from various academic disciplines and sectors took part in a training on Climate Change and Security in Central Asia in Bishkek. The Office of the Co-ordinator of OSCE Economic and Environmental Activities (OCEEA) and the Berlin-based think tank adelphi organized the event in partnership with the OSCE Academy and the OSCE Programme Office in Bishkek.

On 5 July, the Delegation of the European Union in Tajikistan together with the OSCE Programme Office in Dushanbe held a handover ceremony to commemorate the completion of the first phase of EU –funded project for renovation of the Training Centre of Tajikistan’s Committee of Emergency Situations and Civil Defence (Committee) in Karatag, Shahrinav district.

Where we are: OSCE Programme Office in Bishkek
Mailuu-Suu is a small town located in the Jalal-Abad province, Kyrgyzstan, with a population of 22 thousand people. During the Soviet years, the town used to be a regional centre for mining uranium ore – a large industry that came to a halt with the breakup of the Soviet Union in the early 1990’s. Mailuu-Suu’s industrial past left multiple uranium tailings pits that partially have been rehabilitated and recultivated; yet, there still remain tailings pits that pose threat to the local population’s and ecosystem’s health.

The OSCE Project Co-ordinator in Uzbekistan continues to support the integration of environmental education into the pre-school curriculum throughout the country. On 16 June 2022, the Project Co-ordinator jointly with the Ministry of Preschool Education and the Innovative Center for Information and Pedagogical Technologies organized a national high-level conference to present the programme on environmental education “Earth is Our Common Home” for preschool educational institutions.
