OSCE supports Kyrgyz Republic in forging pathways to e-commerce growth

Bishkek, 6-7 October 2023- The Ministry of Economy and Commerce of the Kyrgyz Republic in partnership with the OSCE Programme Office in Bishkek organized a training on E-Commerce and government policy issues in the field of exports. The training brought together representatives from the Ministry of Economy, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Agriculture, National Agency for Investments and Kyrgyzstan’s prominent Business Associations.

Some 64 representatives of financial investigation units and law enforcement agencies from Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, India, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russian Federation, Serbia, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan, as well as experts from international organizations attended a seminar on “Current Issues in Countering the Financing of Terrorism” held in Bishkek on 11 November.

Mailuu-Suu is a small town located in the Jalal-Abad province, Kyrgyzstan, with a population of 22 thousand people. During the Soviet years, the town used to be a regional centre for mining uranium ore – a large industry that came to a halt with the breakup of the Soviet Union in the early 1990’s. Mailuu-Suu’s industrial past left multiple uranium tailings pits that partially have been rehabilitated and recultivated; yet, there still remain tailings pits that pose threat to the local population’s and ecosystem’s health.

The event took place from 1 to 3 July 2021 in Kyrgyzstan’s Issyk-Kul province.
