Democratic Law-making: Thematic Workshop
When
Where
Organized by
ODIHR is organizing a thematic workshop focused on law-making processes and the role that national human rights institutions (NHRIs) and civil society organizations (CSOs) play in this context. Gender mainstreaming - or incorporating a gender equality perspective in all policies and at all levels - will also feature on the agenda.
Objective
This workshop aims to identify the key elements that allow the law-making process to be inclusive and participatory, in order to embed these elements in ODIHR’s work on the draft guidelines on good law-making.
As such, discussions on NHRIs and CSOs will look to ensure that national legislation is compatible with domestic and international human rights standards, and that it can influence the legislative process in a number of ways.
Also, the topic of gender mainstreaming in law-making processes will more broadly deal with best practices in the legislative and oversight work of the parliament, including through gender impact assessments.

The meeting will gather experts and practitioners from across the OSCE region and with various backgrounds - including academics, civil society, parliaments, international organizations, and the judiciary.
